Inauspicious Results of the Trishadaya Lords (3, 6, and 11)

By Kshitij Sharma, December 25, 2025

In revising the analysis of Trishadaya houses (3rd, 6th, and 11th) and their lords, we can focus on the technical principles and predictive outcomes in a more professional context, emphasizing the vital role of conditional factors.

The Technical Classification of Trishadaya Lords

As Laghu Parashari tells us, the determination of a planet’s influence is highly dependent on the houses it rules (functional lordship). It does not supersede its inherent nature (natural benefic or malefic), but it is modified a lot and the nature does change.

  1. Inauspicious Lordship: The 3rd, 6th, and 11th houses (Tri, Shada, and Ayaa) are classified as inauspicious or evil houses. Therefore, their lords are designated as functional malefics who produce negative influences during their dasha or bhukti. The lord of the 11th house is considered the worst malefic among the Trishadaya lords, followed by the 6th house lord and then the 3rd house lord.
  2. The Reason behind Negativity: This negative classification comes from the characteristics governed by these houses. If an individual constantly seeks income, ambition (11th house), is considered excessively argumentative (3rd house), or behaves like an enemy (6th house), even a noble person is said to “turn out to be an evil person”. The lords of these houses are therefore burdened with these self-serving tendencies.
  3. The Upachaya Distinction: It is important  to note that the 3rd, 6th, and 11th houses are also known as Upachaya houses (houses of growth or improvement). All planets, but specifically malefic planets (including Trishadaya lords) generally perform good and well when placed in these houses, indicating wealth/material acquisition and enhancement over time, even when they are natural malefic. This dual nature means the dasha/bhukti may produce significant material gains even if there are health issues, preoccupation with one’s own interests and less about benefit of others, etc.

The Challenges in Prediction, Good or Bad:

The principles in Laghu Parashari and maintained by Dr. Raman in his books are that the inauspicious results expected from a functional malefic dasha/bhukti are not absolute. They are conditional upon the planet’s relationships within the natal chart:

  • Mitigation by Trikona Lords: The Dasa of a Trishadaya lord will not produce good results or may produce negative results, unless the planet is strongly related (by conjunction, aspect, or exchange) to the lord of a Trikona (trine) house (1st, 5th, or 9th). The Trikona lords are considered inherently auspicious, and their association is essential to lower the negativity of the Trishadaya lord.
  • Neutralisation of Evil: If the inauspicious Trishadaya lord is related to an auspicious Trikona lord, the combination yields mixed results, softening the negative predictions.

Reframing Inauspicious Results as Predictive Challenges

When the mitigating influence of Trikona lords is absent, the inauspicious outcomes translate into specific challenges related to the houses involved (3rd, 6th, 11th). These can be interpreted as potential areas of friction, debts or lack of resources, or health concern:

  • Professional and Authority Conflicts: The dasha/bhukti of an unaffiliated Trishadaya lord may lead to displeasure of the Government or superiors causing disgrace and humiliation.
  • Enemies and Opposition: The person may experience the springing up of a lot of opposition.
  • Health and Physical Issues: Since the 6th house governs disease, the dasha/bhukti may bring about sickness and physical ailments. The 11th lord is also indicative of disease, being 6th from the 6th.
  • Financial and Material Losses: Without benefic aspects, gains (11th house) can reverse, leading to financial losses, mounting debts, or losses through deceit and theft.
  • Psychological Strain: The malefic influence may also show up as stress.

Conclusion on Dasa Analysis

The dasha/bhukti of a Trishadaya lord, while presenting inherent functional difficulties, must be seen as a period of material growth (due to the Upachaya nature) coupled with challenges. Also, it is very important to note that any astrologer will never advise to wear gemstone of any of the trishadaya house lords.

Here are two specific examples, detailing the classification and predicted conditional outcomes:

Example 1: The Sun as 11th Lord for Libra (Tula) Ascendant

I. Functional Classification

For a Libra Lagna native:

  1. House Lordship: The Sun rules Leo, which is the 11th house.
  2. Malefic Status: The 11th house belongs to the Trishadaya group (3, 6, 11) and hence explicitly classified as an inauspicious planet for Libra Ascendant.
  3. Auspicious Lords for Mitigation: The primary auspicious or Trikona lords for Libra are Saturn (4th/5th lord, often the sole Rajayogakaraka) and Mercury (9th/12th lord, generally auspicious).

II. Modified Dasha/Bhukti Results

The nature of the Sun dasha/bhukti hinges entirely on its relationship with Saturn or Mercury:

  • If Unaffiliated: If the Sun is strong but lacks a relationship with a Trikona lord, its Dasa will generally produce negative results. Since the Sun indicates self and ego irrespective of its attributes in the horoscope, this negativity often manifests as difficulties related to authority and status. The Sun’s placement in the 2nd house (more so when unaspected) is explicitly listed as causing losses by offending the authorities.
  • Physical and Health Challenges: The Sun is a planet of heat and dryness (Pitta). When it occupies the lagna where it is in neecha, but could achieve neechabhanga, it can indicate a hot constitution, and onset of fevers headache and inflammations.
  • If affiliated: If the Sun (11th lord) is related to Saturn (rajayogakaraka) or Mercury (9th lord), the malefic nature is mitigated, and the dasha/bhukti period may yield positive results such as:
    • Acquisition of wealth and learning.
    • Success in a career and ambitions.

Example 2: Mars as 6th and 11th Lord for Gemini (Mithuna) Ascendant

I. Functional Classification

For a Gemini Lagna native:

  1. House Lordship: Mars rules Aries (11th house) and Scorpio (6th house).
  2. Extreme Malefic Status: Mars, possessing the lordship of two Trishadaya houses, is considered very negative for Gemini Lagna.
  3. Auspicious Lords for Mitigation: The most auspicious planet is Venus (5th lord) and since its 2nd rashi falls in the 12th house, it does not get a blemish of being a 12th lord.

II. Conditional Dasa Results

The Dasa of Mars is challenging, and its results are primarily negative unless there is a yoga with Venus or Mercury:

  • If unaspected: If Mars is not related to auspicious lords, his dasha/bhukti period will deliver results characterized by the 6th house (enemies, debt, disease) and the 11th house (loss of gains, conflicts).
    • Litigation and Conflict: Mars’s period can put the native under debts.
    • Health and Accidents: Mars is the planet of heat, risk, and conflict. As 6th lord (disease) and a natural malefic, it can cause various kinds of physical ailments.
    • Loss of Support: The period of the 11th lord may indicate that the elder brother may suffer troubles and bad health.
  • With benefic aspect: If Mars is related to the Trikona lord Venus (5th lord), the negativity is mitigated. For instance, in a Gemini chart where Mars was in his own house and related to Venus and Saturn, the dasha can result in success and progress further after many obstacles.
